Humidifiers

Trying to keep your kids congestion free this winter? Keeping a cool mist humidifier running nightly while the heat is on helps keep nasal passages clear. I have purchased at least three crappy drugstore cool mist ones in the past 1.5 years and am tired of not being able to find replacement filter for them. The solution? A super cute humidifier from Crane for baby's room that doesn't require a filter...unless you want one and then you can always order it on whichever site you purchased the humidifier from.

Where to buy it? Virtually Anywhere!!
Crane, Drugstore.com, AllergyBeGone.com, Target, Walmart, Amazon.com

Activity Tables

My friend Morgan and I are obsessed with this activity table from Land of Nod. It grows with your kids...starts out low and ends up as a tall table. What a genius idea! You have to buy the package with two additional sets of legs and the storage bins but it seems like it would be worth it. A table that will last through teen years for $499? Sign me up! Darn those Crate and Barrel people for launching Land of Nod and making me want so many things.
Now where oh where can I put it?

However, as much as I have obsessed about this table I just can't bring myself to make it part of our living room furniture so I found an alternate solution that provides my daughter somewhere to color. And it fits nicely in the corner of her bedroom. I found this adorable Guidecraft desk for $110 that includes a paper roller and slot to run the other side of the paper through. The paper stays down and we have endless space to draw! I had to assemble it myself. But it was really easy. And I ordered it on Amazon. So that was easy too! It comes in red and maple as well.

I also like this Guidecraft table but its just too colorful for my decor. Would look great in a playroom!

Bookshelves

I've been searching for just the right white, gender neutral quality shelf to go under the window in my toddler's bedroom. But I want all the canvas bins I bought on sale at Pottery barn 2 years ago to fit in the shelves. This has made the search even tougher.

I was close to ordering this great shelf from Pottery Barn but discovered its made of MDF which is insanely heavy. The reviews on it are great and if we have a boy next go around it will work in the nursery as well. So maybe I'll get it after all. (I did get it. And it wasn't that heavy. It was super easy to put together and I love it!)

If we had a playroom I would love to buy a cubby shelf like this one from Beck International on Amazon.com. How fun is that? And a great price at $32.99. Continuing the search I tried Target (more MDF), Land of Nod, JC Penney, The Company Store and Rosenberry Rooms ($$$$). Love to know if anyone has other suggestions!

Play Kitchens

We live in a relatively small house and as my daughter grows the size of her toys seem to grow with her. I have been determined to keep the toy clutter at bay and maintain a somewhat adult environment. After all we spent a lot of time and effort picking out our furniture and making our house a home. So when it came to buying her some furniture, a kitchen of her own that is, I spent a lot of time looking at options on the net. Here's what I found.

Pottery Barn has by far the coolest kitchens! The Retro Ones are really fun and the Gourmet Kitchen is a modern Mommies delight. It would look gorgeous anywhere in your home. However they take up a lot of room and are very pricey. What I do love is that they are separate pieces so you can configure them however they work best in your room. Or you can just buy one or two of the pieces. You don't have to order the whole set. You are looking at spending between $250 and $900 with these kitchens.

Another great option is the wooden Corner Kitchen made exclusively for One Step Ahead. Its got everything you need including a water dispenser on the fridge, microwave, and a chalkboard so there are plenty of knobs, buttons and goodies for kiddies to play with. It also fits conveniently and compactly in the corner of a room. And the price is right. This kitchen includes everything for $250.

Or, if you want to get something really unique and have plenty of room this Grand Walk-In Kitchen from Step 2 is amazing! Hardwood floors, granite counter tops, a seating area, you name it. Wow! And its still in the price range of most of the kitchens I have looked at. $269 and this play wonder can belong to your child. If space is an issue Step 2 also makes plenty of compact, plastic units that would be great even outdoors!

Looking to spend less than $100? Target and Walmart have some terrific options. And I love this little wooden kitchen from Educo which you can get for $99.00 at CSN (shout out to Gabi for telling me about CSN!). Or check out the wooden island from Guidecraft at the same site. compact, well-made and fun!
